👏 Peru Greenlights Copper Expansion
Peru's environmental authority has approved Antamina, the country's largest copper-zinc mine, for a $2 billion expansion, extending its operational lifespan to 2036.
Co-owned by Glencore (LON: GLEN), BHP (ASX, LON: BHP), Teck Resources (TSX: TECK.A, TECK.B) (NYSE: TECK), and Mitsubishi (TYO: 8058), the mine will expand its open pit and optimize waste management. Antamina's president, Víctor Gobitz, hailed the milestone as pivotal for both the mine and Peru's mining sector. The approved plan entails a 25% increase in mine area, deepening the open pit by 150 meters, and enhancing ore extraction and waste management capacities.
This approval coincides with discussions aimed at expediting permitting processes in Peru's mining industry.
We absolutely LOVE the word “expediting”. Give us more!
