Greetings Contrarian,
This is The Next Big Rush, your daily drop of mining/energy investing news. Where we come together through good or turbulent skies.
Fasten your seatbelts for these:
🛫 Rio Finds Radioactive Thinga-mabobber
🛫 Another Day, Another Mine Halt
🛫 Nevada King Lifts Grade
🛫 Juicy Grades in Guyana
👍🏻 Rio Tinto Finds Radioactive Capsule Lost in Western Australia
You can now breathe easy, the world is safe again. The previously lost tiny little capsule containing Caesium-137, at a mere 8mm by 6mm, almost as small as Robert Kiyosaki's tolerance for Joe Biden.
The capsule, which was used in an iron ore mine, was spotted after a nearly week-long search involving around 100 people along a 1,400 kilometres stretch of highway.
Caesium-137 capsules are commonly used in radiation gauges in mining to measure the density of materials such as iron ore. Coming into contact with one can cause severe burns and expose you to the equivalent of 10 x-rays per hour.
After failing to find the evasive capsule with geiger counters, the team used radiation portal monitors and gamma spectrometers on a (very) slow moving vehicle in order to pinpoint an approximate location.
Crisis averted.
😵💫 Another Mine Halted in South America
Tombador Iron (ASX: TI1) has temporarily suspended production at its main iron ore mine in Brazil due to disruptions caused by a blockade in the state of Bahia.
The blockade is part of ongoing protests by supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro, who are calling for blockades and power outages in a coordinated effort to cause chaos and trigger a military coup.
Tombador is working with stakeholders to reopen the mine but gave no further information. The company recently secured contracts to export two shipments of high-grade iron ore to Asia, and produced over 754,000 tonnes of iron ore last year.
Tombador's shares fell 14.3% and closed 7.4% lower at A$0.026, giving the company a market capitalization of A$55.56 million ($39m).
Peru, anyone?
👑 Nevada King Lifts Grade
Some highlights:
33.5m of 3.43 g/t Au and 125.7 g/t Ag
67.1m of 2.88 g/t Au and 52 g/t Ag
51.8m @ 2.95 g/t Au and 79.5 g/t Ag
The Atlanta Mine is a historical gold-silver producer with a NI 43-101 compliant pit-constrained resource of 460,000 oz Au in the measured and indicated category (11.0M tonnes at 1.3 g/t) plus an inferred resource of 142,000 oz Au (5.3M tonnes at 0.83 g/t)
Definitely a boost to previous known grade.
👌🏼 11g/t Gold at Guyana Project
Reunion Gold (TSX.V:RGD) (OTC:RGDFF) is a gold explorer in Guyana. In 2021 the Company made a gold discovery at its Oko West project, where to date it has outlined continuous gold mineralization at the Kairuni zone over 2,000 meters of strike and to a depth of 575 meters.
As they're due to come out with a PEA by the end of this year, they are reporting results from 38 holes extending the known extent of mineralization down dip and along strike.
Highlights:
39.5 m @ 11.04 g/t Au in D-185
37.0 m @ 4.66 g/t Au in D-182
107.3 m @ 2.74 g/t Au in D-187
86.0 m @ 2.75 g/t Au in D-176
The only thing we'd like to ask of the company is to include a neat little map next time, since we're essentially 5th graders here.
