The government of Kazakhstan, the worldโs leading uranium producer with a 30% of global supply, led by Prime Minister Smailov, resigned, with President Tokayev accepting the decision. The exact reason for the resignation wasn't stated, but President Tokayev has been advocating for reforms to attract foreign investment.
Government reshuffles are common in Kazakhstan due to the president's centralized power. Political scientist Talgat Kaliyev suggests that the resignation is related to Kazakhstan's economic development, as President Tokayev expressed disappointment with the government's inability to propose an effective economic strategy.
The current government will continue its functions until a new executive is approved. Response from uranium traders has so far been muted. We are watching this like nuclear-powered hawks.
