😆 Governments Spent $1 Trillion On Fossil Fuel Subsidies

Despite delirious ambitious goals to reduce carbon emissions, a new report by the International Energy Agency reveals that global governments spent a whopping $1 trillion last year subsidizing the very industries they are trying to destroy on the basis of driving climate change.

And while leaders pledged to end these subsidies at the Glasgow Climate Pact in November 2021, the reality is that these fossil fuel subsidies are only increasing. The amount spent on energy last year was more than double the total global investment in renewable energy sources, according to BloombergNEF figures.

Governments justified these subsidies by trying to shield consumers from rising energy prices and the economic impact of the pandemic.

Are we shocked? No.
