The United States and Ukraine have reached a critical minerals deal, viewed by the Trump administration as pivotal for brokering a ceasefire with Russia.

The agreement, expected to be signed by President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in Washington on Friday, follows intense negotiations where the US lowered its demand from $500 billion in mineral resources as repayment for military aid.

Ukraine, with an estimated $10 trillion in mineral deposits, including 22 of the EU's 34 critical minerals, will reportedly enter a 50/50 joint development of these resources with the US. The deal offers President Trump a domestic political win, while Zelenskiy aims to ease US tensions.

Because nothing says “ceasefire” like trading military support for a 50/50 cut of maybe-profitable Ukrainian minerals.
