😉 Gold Holds Ground
Gold prices dipped 0.4% to $2,926.54 an ounce today but remained on track for an eighth consecutive weekly gain, buoyed by safe-haven demand amid concerns over U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff plans.
The metal hit a record high of $2,954.69 on Thursday, with a weekly gain of around 1.5%. Analysts believe the rally remains solid unless prices drop to around $2,850. Meanwhile, silver and palladium are set for weekly gains, while platinum eyes a decline.
Gold might have taken a little dip, but it’s still flexing its safe-haven muscles! With an eighth straight week of gains and fresh record highs, it feels like gold’s saying, 'I’m not done yet.' The bulls could still have room to run if prices don’t slip to around $2,850.
Could this be the calm before the next golden storm?
🧐 Tariff Impact
Cameco (TSX: CCO) warns that US uranium prices could rise by 10% if President Trump's proposed 10% tariffs on Canadian energy imports come into effect on 4 March.
With Canada supplying 27% of US uranium in 2023—surpassing Australia and Kazakhstan at 22% each—the tariff could significantly affect the inelastic US demand for contracted volumes. CFO Grant Isaac stated that the move might also inflate prices from non-tariff countries as they take advantage of the shift.
In response, Cameco is considering market diversification, including new customers in Central and Eastern Europe, as the US risks undermining its “energy dominant” strategy with potential supply security challenges.
Smart.
