Cameco Corporation (TSX: CCO; NYSE: CCJ) announced the temporary suspension of production at its joint venture, JV Inkai, as of January 1, 2025.

The suspension follows the failure of JV Inkai to receive an extension for submitting the updated Project for Uranium Deposit Development documentation to Kazakhstan's Ministry of Energy. The delay, due to late submission by Kazatomprom, the majority owner of the JV, led to the halt of operations to avoid violating local legislation.

Cameco expressed surprise and disappointment over the situation and is seeking clarification on the impacts for 2025 and 2026, including potential financial effects and future dividends.

Kazatomprom holds a 60% interest in the JV, while Cameco owns 40%.
