😕 Shares Drop: Project Lag

Gold Fields (JSE, NYSE: GFI) reported delays in its Salares Norte project in Chile, leading to a drop in its shares. The production kickoff, originally scheduled for the start of Q4, has been pushed to the quarter's end.

The project's capital estimate has been raised by $20 million to over $1 billion, and production forecasts have been lowered. This led to a 6% stock decrease in Johannesburg and a 4% drop in New York's pre-market.

The delay was due to challenges with equipment commissioning. Expected gold production for 2023 was cut from up to 20,000 ounces to 1,000 ounces, and the 2024 forecast was also revised down.

🤔 Victoria Buys Sabre

Victoria Gold Corp. (TSX-VGCX) announced the acquisition of Sabre Gold Mines Corp.’s (TSX-SGLD) Yukon assets, via the acquisition of Sabre’s wholly owned Yukon subsidiary, Golden Predator Mining Corp. Victoria has acquired Sabre’s 100% interest in the Brewery Creek property, as well as the 100%-owned Gold Dome and Grew Creek exploration properties.

Highlights:

  • Measured and Indicated Mineral Resources: 1.14 million ounces of gold, 1.03g/t Au,

  • Inferred Mineral Resources: 1.02 million ounces of gold of 0.88g/t Au

Total consideration for Golden Predator: $13.5 million

13.5 million for a couple million ounces? What are the economics behind that (scratches chin)?
