⛏ Should I Sign Up For This?

Greetings Contrarian,

Here we are with your most pressing question this fine Sunday.

Hello, Always-learning-junkie!

There are two types of services you can sign up to: 1- usual newsletter with stock picks, news and economic views. 2- Industry-related publications.

With both you always have to ask yourself: HOW are they making money?

Some newsletter writers are legitimate and have picks that will allow you to see opportunity before most people realise, specially when they have specific technical knowledge.

Some, make money by selling you a great idea but have no skin in the game.

Some have so much stock that they’re selling you their idea in order to make YOU exit liquidity.

But on the other hand, I have never seen an industry publication that has provided an edge to me as an investor.

In fact, they tend to be too conservative and extrapolate the status quo into the future in a way that is not insightful to speculators.

On top of that, they are expensive as hell.

I’ve made most of my money by looking at what speculators see in an industry where “industry people” don’t see anything at all.

Take Mike Alkin of Sachem Cove, for instance, he’s proven to be a true contrarian when he came into uranium and started talking about it some 5+ years ago.

Did people in the industry agree with him?

No.

Was he proven right?

Yes.

How much did it cost me to listen to Mike?

Zero.

This is not to say you shouldn’t follow or pay for any services, but an industry-based publication that has the wrong model is worse than no publication at all.

Regarding newsletters, there’s the good, the bad and the ugly.

So my question to you today is:

Do you subscribe to a newsletter? If so, which?

Hit reply and let me know!

Happy speculating (responsibly),

The Editor
