😬 Taliban Sealing Mining Deals

The Taliban in Afghanistan (YES, THOSE GUYS) has entered into seven mining contracts with local companies, many of which have foreign ties in China, Iran, and Turkey. These contracts, estimated at $6.5 billion, represent the largest deals since they came to power two years ago.

The minerals involved include iron ore, lead, zinc, gold, and copper across four provinces. A televised signing ceremony was held with Taliban’s mines and petroleum minister, Shahabuddin Dilawar, highlighting agreements like a 65% government share from gold extraction over five years.

While the Taliban claims this will boost the economy and job market, experts question the feasibility given the complexities of mineral mining and the lack of a proper regulatory framework in Afghanistan.

65% share. We’re laughing. We’re crying.

🀩 Sweden: Another Mining Victory

Talga Group (ASX: TLG), an Australian company, secured a significant win when a Swedish court dismissed appeals from groups opposing the development of the Nunasvaara graphite mine. The mine could produce enough graphite to support the batteries for two million electric cars annually, reducing Europe's reliance on China.

While Talga received environmental permits in April and aimed for Q3 production, several entities challenged the approval. The Sweden Court of Appeal found no basis for these challenges. Talga's project aligns with Europe's green goals, and the firm is targeting partnerships with automakers like Tesla and Toyota.

Opponents can appeal until September 28, but under stringent conditions. If uncontested, the permits will be validated.

Sweden has done a beautiful turnaround in the mining world, and we love to see it.
